The USA has put forward a number of demands to the authorities of Venezuela.
Moreover, other sources from Politico indicate an expectation from Rodriguez to organize elections in Venezuela and her subsequent departure from office. However, no specific deadlines for these requirements have been established.
Previously, Trump stated that elections in Venezuela would not take place within 30 days, as he believed it was necessary to "restore order in the country" first.
According to sources from the publication, the U.S. has a range of military and economic pressure tools, including possible easing of sanctions and granting access to Rodriguez's financial assets, which are reportedly located in the capital of Qatar.
Delsi Rodriguez was appointed acting president of Venezuela after the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores in a U.S. operation on the night of January 3.
Initially, Rodriguez sharply condemned Washington's actions and demanded Maduro's release; however, later she reached out to Trump with a statement that Venezuelans "deserve peace, not war," and invited the U.S. government to cooperate.
This statement was made after Trump's warning about possible consequences if Venezuela refused to cooperate. The U.S. president added that otherwise, Rodriguez "would have to pay a high price, likely even greater than Maduro."
