In a secret report presented to U.S. President Donald Trump, the CIA claims that high-profile supporters of Nicolás Maduro, including Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, are best positioned to ensure stability in Venezuela if Maduro loses power. This was reported by Reuters, citing sources familiar with the contents of the document.

Anonymous sources confirmed information previously published in The Wall Street Journal regarding this secret report.

According to them, Trump and a limited circle of senior members of his national security team were informed about the report's contents.

Sources indicated that the CIA's conclusions influenced Trump's decision to support Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez rather than opposition leader María Corina Machado.

Meanwhile, the White House press office declined to comment on the report's details.

“President Trump regularly receives analytical data on the political situation in various countries. He and his national security team make informed decisions, striving to ensure that Venezuela's future aligns with U.S. interests and contributes to improving the lives of the Venezuelan people,” noted press secretary Caroline Levitt in response to a request.

The Wall Street Journal also mentioned that this secret report was presented to Trump and his closest advisors weeks before a potential U.S. military operation in Venezuela. While it did not specify how Maduro could be overthrown, it attempted to assess the current situation in the country.

Analysts concluded that opposition leaders, such as Edmundo González, who is effectively considered the winner of the 2024 elections, and Nobel laureate María Corina Machado, would not be able to ensure legitimacy and control over the security forces.

According to the report, Trump appeared inclined to support Delcy Rodríguez, as the document emphasized that she and two other high-profile officials are capable of “maintaining order” in the country. The names of other potential candidates were not mentioned in the report; however, it was reported that this could refer to Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello and Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López.

Nicolás Maduro and his wife were detained by U.S. authorities on January 3, and on January 5, they appeared in court in New York on charges of “narcoterrorism.” Maduro claims that he remains the President of Venezuela.
