At the beginning of his conversation, Shavkat Mirziyoyev "categorically condemned the attempt to attack Putin's residence in the Novgorod region," as stated in the official statement.

He noted that "such actions threaten stability and security, including efforts to achieve long-term peace," according to the press service report.

During the discussion, issues of strengthening the strategic partnership and alliance between Uzbekistan and Russia were addressed, as well as the implementation of previously reached agreements at the highest level.

The leaders exchanged views on important international and regional issues and agreed on the schedule of upcoming events.

In conclusion of the conversation, both presidents congratulated each other on the upcoming year 2026, wishing health and well-being, and peace and prosperity to the peoples of their countries.

Earlier, Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, stated that Ukraine attacked Putin's residence in Valdai using drones and promised that Russia would "reassess its negotiating position." In turn, Vladimir Zelensky called this statement false and noted that Russia is preparing the ground for strikes on government buildings in Kyiv. The Russian Ministry of Defense released a press release with information on the number of drones used following the minister's statement.

Donald Trump, who met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the same day, informed reporters that he learned about the attack from Putin in the morning and expressed his dissatisfaction, reminding that he halted the supply of long-range "Tomahawk" missiles to Ukraine.
