After Israel recognized Somaliland, the European Union called for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia. This was reported in a statement on the website of the European External Action Service.

In this document, it is emphasized that the EU views the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia as a key condition for ensuring peace and stability in the Horn of Africa region. Brussels also called for dialogue between Somaliland and the federal government of Somalia to resolve long-standing disputes in accordance with the country's Constitution and the norms of the African Union and the United Nations.

Somaliland, which has effectively functioned as an independent state since 1991, is still regarded by the international community as part of Somalia.

On December 26, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the president of the self-proclaimed republic, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, signed an agreement on mutual recognition. Thus, Israel became the first country to officially recognize Somaliland.

In response to this decision, the president of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, characterized Israel's actions as "illegal aggression" and noted that interference in the country's affairs contradicts international legal and diplomatic norms. He expressed his opinion on the social network X.

Experts point out that Somaliland's access to the Red Sea could provide Israel with additional logistical and strategic advantages in the region.

Neighboring states such as Egypt, Djibouti, Turkey, and Somalia also condemned Israel's decision. According to media reports, more than 50 countries expressed criticism of this move.
