Moldovan authorities have officially notified Russia about the termination of the intergovernmental agreement that served as the basis for the operation of the Russian House — the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Chișinău. This was announced by Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi at a press conference.
According to him, "the Russian side has already been informed, and at the end of June — beginning of July, when the current agreement expires, it will not be extended, which will lead to the cessation of the legal force of the document. After this date, the center will not be able to operate legally in the Republic of Moldova."
Earlier, the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, approved the decision to denounce the agreement with Russia concerning the Russian House in Chișinău. The Russian embassy characterized this decision as another step aimed at increasing tensions in relations. The embassy also noted that Moscow does not intend to escalate the conflict.
The Russian House, representing Rossotrudnichestvo, operates in 71 countries, including Kyrgyzstan. The main task of the project is to promote the Russian language and culture beyond Russia.
