In an interview with The New York Times, President Trump noted that it will take time to determine the timeline for this process. He also added that U.S. oversight will cover not only oil supplies from Venezuela and their pricing policy but also the financing of that country over many years.

Trump emphasized that the interim government of Venezuela is showing a willingness to cooperate by providing the U.S. with all necessary resources. He also confirmed that Washington is in contact with Delcy Rodriguez, but he declined to explain why the U.S. chose her over opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. The question regarding the timeline for elections in Venezuela remains unanswered.

It is worth reminding that on the night of January 3, the U.S. conducted an operation in Caracas, during which President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were detained. Two days later, they were charged in New York with drug terrorism, smuggling cocaine into the U.S., illegal possession of weapons, and conspiracy. Both individuals have declared their innocence. Recently, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed the main points of the plan for Venezuela, which include selling Venezuelan oil at market prices (Washington is counting on 30-50 million barrels), access for American companies to the Venezuelan market, and the transfer of power.
