The administration of Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has issued an ultimatum to Venezuela demanding the cessation of economic relations with Russia, China, Iran, and Cuba. Instead, Venezuela must agree to exclusive cooperation with the United States, with an emphasis on selling heavy oil to American companies. Senator Roger Wicker stated that the American plan is based on controlling Venezuelan oil tankers, which are currently fully loaded. He warned that Caracas has only a few weeks left before financial collapse if exports are not restored.
“We do not plan to deploy troops on the ground... That is not our intention,” he noted. According to him, the strategy includes a naval blockade and economic pressure.
President Trump has already stated that the interim authorities of Venezuela must transfer between 30 to 50 million barrels of oil to the United States for sale, and the proceeds from this sale will be under the control of Washington “for the benefit of the people of Venezuela and the United States.”
