The Trump administration views Greenland in the context of ensuring U.S. security. In an interview with CNN, Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller stated that to protect NATO interests in the Arctic, the island should become part of the United States.

According to Miller, the status of the U.S. as a "superpower" calls into question the legality of Denmark's claims to Greenland. He expressed bewilderment regarding the grounds on which Denmark asserts its rights to the island, considering it a colony. At the same time, he avoided directly answering the question about the possible use of force for annexation.

Denmark promptly responded to these statements:
Earlier, representatives of the American administration emphasized the importance of expanding U.S. influence in the Arctic region.
