April McClain Delaney, a congresswoman from the Democratic Party, addressed her colleagues with a call to initiate impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump. The main reason for her statement was the U.S. military operation in Venezuela.

According to Delaney, Trump exceeded his authority by acting without the consent of Congress, which contradicts the Constitution of the United States. She also noted that the U.S. president had expressed intentions to control Venezuela following the overthrow of President Nicolás Maduro.

Speaking about the possibility of impeachment, she emphasized that this is not a political struggle, but a defense of constitutional order and the maintenance of the balance of powers in the country.

The Trump administration, for its part, claimed that actions in Venezuela were necessary to execute a warrant and fell within the president's powers as commander-in-chief.

Some Democrats in Congress expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the White House, pointing out the lack of prior notification and permission from lawmakers.

On Saturday night, explosions occurred in Caracas. Trump stated that the U.S. carried out extensive strikes on the capital of Venezuela, and that Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured and taken out of the country. Preliminary reports indicated that they were first taken to the Guantanamo military base and then transported to New York, where they were placed in a detention center in Brooklyn.

Venezuelan authorities claimed that U.S. actions were aimed at establishing control over the country's mineral resources and oil. UN Secretary-General António Guterres also noted that the U.S. violated international norms during the operation.

Recently, the first court hearing in the case of the Venezuelan president concluded in New York. Maduro faces up to four life sentences for conspiracy related to drug trafficking, cocaine smuggling, as well as possession of firearms and explosives, and for conspiracy to use them against the U.S. He has refused to plead guilty. The next hearing is scheduled for March 17.
