According to information provided by ABC News, Washington is demanding that the interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, sever all economic and political ties with Russia, China, Iran, and Cuba. Sources close to the administration reported this demand.

The channel also reports that the U.S. insists that Venezuela conduct oil deals exclusively with them, ensuring priority sales of heavy oil. These conditions, according to sources, are necessary for lifting restrictions on increasing oil production in the country.

At a closed briefing for members of Congress on January 5, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio pointed out the leverage over Caracas. He noted that Venezuelan tankers are filled with oil, and without its sale, the country could face financial collapse in the coming weeks.

Additionally, Trump previously stated on his social network Truth Social that the interim authorities of Venezuela are ready to transfer between 30 to 50 million barrels of oil, which is under sanctions, to the U.S. He clarified that this oil would be sold at market prices, and the control over the received funds would be taken by the U.S. president to ensure their use in the interests of both Venezuela and the United States.

The publication Politico also reported on Washington's demands. According to sources, the U.S. has demanded that Delcy Rodriguez not only stop drug trafficking but also expel Iranian, Cuban, and other allegedly hostile agencies, as well as halt the sale of oil to rival countries. American officials also expect that steps will be taken to organize free elections in Venezuela and the subsequent departure of Rodriguez from office.
