Specialists from the Republican Center for Health Promotion warn about the serious threat that passive smoking poses to the health of those nearby.

Smoking may remain a personal choice; however, its consequences become tangible when tobacco smoke is inhaled by others. Experts emphasize how dangerous passive smoking is for non-smokers.

According to medical research, a non-smoker's presence in a room where someone is smoking for eight hours is equivalent to smoking five cigarettes. This means that passive smokers expose themselves to a real health threat.

Tobacco smoke negatively affects the mucous membranes and respiratory organs, increasing the risk of developing lung cancer and other serious diseases.

Children, pregnant women, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to the effects of passive smoking. These groups show a significantly increased likelihood of developing colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchial asthma, and infectious diseases, as well as severe illnesses such as leukemia, lymphoma, and brain tumors. Children exposed to tobacco smoke are more likely to suffer from illnesses at an early age and miss school.

In Kyrgyzstan, smoking in enclosed spaces and public places is prohibited.
