According to information provided by Bloomberg, the European Union plans to impose sanctions on Kyrgyzstan in response to the assistance being provided by Russia.

As part of the new package of restrictions against Russia currently under discussion, the EU intends to use for the first time a mechanism to counteract the circumvention of sanctions concerning certain equipment exported to Kyrgyzstan.

In particular, this involves a ban on the export to the country of machine tools and certain types of radio equipment, as the agency claims.

The new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation is scheduled to be adopted on February 24, 2026, a date that marks the fourth anniversary of the beginning of military actions in Ukraine. This was reported by Kaja Kallas, the head of EU diplomacy.

In connection with suspicions of circumventing sanctions against Russia, companies from other countries, including Kyrgyzstan, have also become subject to sanction pressure from the EU and the USA. Thus, in October 2025, two banks—“Tolubai” and Eurasian Savings Bank—were included in the EU sanctions lists. In February 2025, “Keremet Bank,” which had previously been placed on the US sanctions list, was added to a similar list in the UK. Additionally, several companies from Kyrgyzstan have also been sanctioned.
