- The analysis of the investment climate in Central Asia shows that Kyrgyzstan is becoming increasingly important for China, according to the latest report from the EDB (2026).

In the first half of 2025, China initiated 25 new investment projects in the Eurasian region, with a total value of nearly $900 million. As of mid-2025, the total number of projects increased from 171 in 2023 to 213.

All new initiatives in 2025 relate to Central Asian countries, where 23 projects have been implemented, and in Azerbaijan, where two projects have been carried out.

The largest share of investments is directed towards Russia and Kazakhstan, which together account for about 92% of the total volume. However, Kyrgyzstan demonstrates the highest growth rates.

“This highlights the growing interest of China in Central Asia and the strengthening role of other countries in the region, especially Kyrgyzstan:

The volume of accumulated direct Chinese investments in Kyrgyzstan has increased from $0.8 billion to $2.1 billion, which is largely associated with the implementation of infrastructure and logistics projects,” the authors of the study note.
