Recently, there has been active discussion online about reports of an alleged mass infection of cows with foot-and-mouth disease in Kyrgyzstan. Some users are urging others to refrain from purchasing farm milk and cottage cheese, claiming that it could be dangerous. However, these alarmist messages have no real basis.
The Veterinary Service, as well as the Department of Animal Husbandry, Pastures, and Feed under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Food Industry of Kyrgyzstan, stated to the editorial office of VB.KG that as of today, there have been no registered cases of foot-and-mouth disease in the country. The agency emphasized that the veterinary situation remains stable and that there is careful monitoring of the animals.
As for the disturbing video footage of sick animals that is being actively circulated among Kyrgyz citizens, it was filmed outside the country. The agency assures that there are no grounds for concern regarding the dairy products of local farmers, and rumors about bans on their purchase are pure fabrication. Veterinarians strongly urge citizens not to succumb to provocations and to avoid spreading false information.
