In anticipation of the agro-industrial forum "Agrodialog-2026," Zhanibek Kerimaliev, the First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, shared the priorities for the sector during the broadcast of the program "Ala-Too Live." He emphasized that to address the issue of pasture degradation, it is necessary not only to increase the number of livestock but also to significantly enhance its productivity.
According to specialists from the ministry, transitioning to high-yield breeding livestock will reduce the load on pastures by up to 5%. This means that maintaining a smaller number of animals with high meat and milk productivity is a more economical and environmentally safe approach to developing the agricultural sector.
To achieve this goal, high-quality genetic materials of elite breeds, such as Aberdeen-Angus, Simmental, and Swedish breeds, have already been imported into the country. The seed material is distributed among farmers with the help of a network of veterinary and technical specialists. Additionally, as part of the state program for the development of breeding livestock, farmers receive the necessary consulting assistance.
It is expected that the first results of the implementation of the new breeds will be analyzed by the end of autumn. Experts will assess the growth and productivity of the animals, after which the ministry will draw conclusions about the effectiveness of this initiative. The agency expresses confidence that the focus on breeding livestock will help preserve the country's natural resources and enhance the competitiveness of local agriculture.
