The First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, noted in an interview on the radio that the development of breeding livestock and seed production is a crucial condition for the sustainable progress of the agricultural sector in Kyrgyzstan.

He reported that the ministry has issued a special order aimed at effectively increasing the population of breeding livestock, taking into account the climatic conditions of various regions. This document is focused on breeding those breeds that are best adapted to local natural conditions.

“For mountainous areas, breeds that are well adapted to challenging climatic conditions and grazing have been selected. These include Aberdeen-Angus, Simmental, Montbeliarde, and Hereford breeds. In valley and dairy regions, Holstein-Friesian, Swiss, black-spotted, and brown breeds, as well as Simmental and Montbeliarde, are recommended,” added the deputy minister.

According to Kerimaliev, Holstein-Friesian is one of the most productive breeds for dairy farming and is widely used in the country. Most of the recommended breeds are well suited for the conditions of Kyrgyzstan and are oriented towards dairy or meat-dairy production.

To support breeding livestock, the Ministry of Agriculture has developed a program offering farmers preferential financing at 3% per annum. This measure covers both the purchase of breeding livestock within the country and its import from abroad.

According to ministry data, there are 186 breeding farms operating in Kyrgyzstan, and farmers purchasing livestock from official breeding farms can expect preferential financing. The main supplies of breeding livestock come from European countries, as well as from Russia and Kazakhstan.

However, Kerimaliev emphasized the importance of a careful approach to purchasing breeding animals. He noted that some farmers acquire livestock without verified lineage, which leads to the loss of breeding qualities and the transformation of animals into ordinary commercial livestock.

In this regard, he urged farmers to carefully check breeding cards and pedigree documents, as well as to seek consultations from the Ministry of Agriculture, territorial agricultural development offices, and veterinary services.
