According to Zhantaev, the region has 269 reservoirs with a total designed capacity of 253.145 million cubic meters, of which 168.81 million cubic meters of water have been accumulated so far. In 2026, it is planned to conduct a sowing campaign on an area of 418,764 hectares, of which 269,698 hectares are irrigated lands. For these purposes, the supply of 850 million cubic meters of water is planned, which is 36% more compared to 2025.
The state budget has allocated 120 million soms for the repair and restoration of irrigation facilities. These funds will be directed towards: the repair of 231.5 km of canals, mechanical cleaning of 609 km, restoration of 579 hydraulic structures, maintenance of 516 water measurement posts, repair of one pumping station, and manual cleaning of 740 km of inter-farm canals.
The first deputy representative also noted that in 2025, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems covered more than 10,000 hectares, of which 411 hectares were established by the state, and 9,942 hectares by farmers. To prepare for irrigation in 2026, it is planned to attract 13 units of equipment from the Water Management Service and about 30 units from local aiyl administrations.
As part of the "Chui Agro" strategy, 6 significant projects and 9 activities aimed at improving irrigation have been developed: inventory of systems, cleaning of canals using innovative polymers, ensuring water supply to agricultural lands, annulment of contracts with water users, organization of irrigation and soil loosening, educational work with farmers, training in the latest water-saving technologies, implementation of an electronic queue for irrigation, and construction of a daily regulating reservoir in the Issyk-Ata district.
Zhantaev emphasized that all these measures are aimed at the rational use of water resources and increasing crop yields in the region.
