Migrants transferred almost 3 billion dollars from Russia to Kyrgyzstan

In 2025, the volume of remittances to the Kyrgyz Republic reached a record high of $3.5 billion, accounting for 15.4% of the country's gross domestic product, according to the macroeconomic review of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).

The main factor contributing to this growth was the remittances from Russia, which increased by 16.1% to approximately $2.99 billion. The strengthening of the Russian ruble against the dollar by 24% year-on-year by the end of 2025 played a significant role in increasing the influx of money. At the same time, the som, the national currency of Kyrgyzstan, remained stable, weakening by only 0.5% against the dollar compared to the previous year.

Additionally, remittances from the United States also showed significant growth, exceeding $100 million for the year, indicating a diversification of migrants' income sources. The increase in cash flow has already impacted the real sector of the economy: in 2025, the growth of domestic trade reached 17.8% amid rising consumer demand.

According to EDB forecasts, remittances in 2026 will continue to support the national currency. The average exchange rate of the som is expected to be 89.2 per US dollar, and the republic's economy is projected to maintain its leadership in the region with a GDP growth rate of 9.3%.
