- As part of the "Agrodialog" forum, which is taking place from February 18 to 21, Bakyt Torobaev, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Processing Industry, presented plans for the phased concrete lining of the Large Chui Canals. This will help reduce water losses and lower production costs for agricultural products.

He noted that prices for agricultural goods on the global market fluctuate significantly. For example, the price of beans has dropped from $1600 to $900, which may result in farmers' incomes not covering their expenses.

“Reducing the cost of production for farmers is an important task,” he emphasized.

In addition, Torobaev highlighted the need to ensure stable and efficient water supply for agricultural lands. In this regard, the development of irrigation infrastructure is planned, including the implementation of drip irrigation and the modernization of existing canals.

There are three canals operating in the country: the Western, Eastern, and Southern Large Chui Canals. The Western LCC is 146 km long, of which only 3.9 km are lined with concrete. The Eastern LCC has a length of 97 km, with 10 km lined with concrete, while the Southern LCC, which is 36 km long, has a concrete lining over a section of 5.8 km.

“Since most canals remain earthen, water losses are significant,” he added.
