On February 26, 2026, during a plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Meder Chotonov raised an important issue regarding the quality of bean seeds, as well as the need for the restoration and construction of irrigation facilities.

In response, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zhanibek Kerimaliev noted that updating bean varieties is necessary to increase yields.

He also added that one of the pressing problems is soil depletion. "Regular crop rotation and fertilization are essential conditions," he emphasized.

Chotonov, for his part, called for addressing the issue of updating bean seeds to boost yields, adding, "We need to provide assistance to farmers."

Kerimaliev replied that in recent years, the focus has been on seeds, supporting farmers, and the situation in Talas.

"If we keep saying that things are bad, then they will be. You want to convey the people's opinion to us, but we also need to see the positive results of our work," he remarked.

According to the deputy minister, many projects are being implemented in the Talas region, including the construction of canals, BSR, and BDR.

However, the deputy countered that not a single BDR has been built in Talas so far, only projects have been presented. "Your lots don't even have a sluice. It's not enough to just collect money; you also need to work effectively," he added.

This issue was raised as part of the discussion on the draft Law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Kyrgyz Republic (to the laws 'On the Protection and Use of Plant Life' and 'On the Development of Agriculture in the Kyrgyz Republic')" (the document is submitted for the first reading).
