The blind are to regain sight: Elon Musk's Neuralink is preparing to implant Blindsight chips in 2026

Elon Musk and his company Neuralink are aiming to conduct the first clinical trials of their Blindsight implant on humans, scheduled for 2026. This device is designed to restore vision in patients suffering from complete blindness.

The main goal of this technology is to provide users with the ability to see in low resolution, with the prospect of subsequent improvement in image quality.

Musk shared his thoughts on the social network X, stating: "We expect approval from regulatory authorities and are ready to launch Blindsight, which will allow people who have lost their sight to first see in low resolution, and then in high resolution."

Blindsight is aimed at restoring vision in individuals who have lost both eyes and the optic nerve, provided that their visual cortex remains intact.

Earlier in a post on X, Musk noted: "Neuralink, with the help of Blindsight, will be able to restore vision even to those who have lost their eyes and optic nerve, as long as the visual cortex of the brain is preserved. This will give the opportunity to see for the first time even to those who have been blind since birth."
