Dr. Gentry Lee, who has been working at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) since 1968, shared his opinion on the existence of extraterrestrial life. The most promising candidates for the search for extraterrestrial life are "Earth-like" worlds, such as TRAPPIST-1e, which is located just 40 light-years away from us in the habitable zone.
Another candidate for the presence of life is the planet K2−18b, located 124 light-years away in the constellation Leo. This is a giant world completely covered by oceans, which grants it the status of a "hycean." Lee added that astronomers should be prepared for the possibility that the forms of life they may discover will be very different from those on Earth. "We will definitely find life somewhere. The probability of this is high," he concluded.
