Kanybek Dosmambetov, the Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan, visited the Clinical Emergency Hospital in Bishkek. During the visit, he familiarized himself with the condition of patients who were hospitalized after the incident at the nursing home.

A total of 14 people were admitted to the hospital: 13 of them suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning, and one sustained first-degree burns. Four patients are in moderate condition, two are in serious condition, and eight are in satisfactory condition. The severity of the patients' conditions is explained by the presence of underlying health issues and the effects of poisoning.

Dosmambetov also reviewed the treatment process and the conditions of the patients, giving instructions to improve medical assistance for the victims.

The fire occurred in the palliative care department of the nursing home in Bishkek, covering an area of about 30 square meters.

The firefighters arrived at the scene in just 9 minutes. Due to the special status of the facility, four units of equipment were deployed to extinguish the fire, as well as medical teams.

Also present at the scene were Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov, and Minister of Labor, Social Security, and Migration Kanat Sagynbaev.

As a result of the incident, two palliative patients in serious condition died. Another 11 people were hospitalized for observation due to potential carbon monoxide poisoning.

It is important to note that fire and tactical drills were conducted at the facility in July 2025, and all safety measures were followed.

The main building of the nursing home was not damaged; the fire only affected the palliative care room. Evacuation will be carried out if necessary.

Mayor Junushaliev instructed a review of all documentation to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

The causes of the fire will be determined based on the findings of the competent authorities.

The fire did not affect the nursing home itself; it occurred in the palliative care room, as reported by Deputy Mayor Victoria Mozgacheva.

According to her, there are a total of 220 residents in the facility who are safe, and the issue of evacuation is not on the table.

“There were 13 seriously ill men in the palliative care department, two of whom died. The remaining 11 were evacuated to another department and then hospitalized to rule out risks of carbon monoxide poisoning. If their condition remains stable, they will be returned tomorrow,” Mozgacheva added.

She also noted that fire safety drills were conducted at the facility in July of last year in collaboration with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and there were no remarks. Specialists will continue to investigate the causes of the incident in the room.

According to the deputy mayor, a major renovation was carried out in the three-story building of the nursing home in 2025.
