At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh held on March 4, Deputy Mederbek Sakkaraev raised the issue related to the landfill in the village of Iskra in the Chui region, which has reached 90% of its capacity.

The area of this landfill is 9 hectares, and it has an environmental passport; however, its resources are nearly exhausted.

“The conditions of its location also pose an additional danger, as the landfill is situated on the windy side. In the event of a fire, the flames can spread quickly, and services do not always manage to localize it in time. This threatens the ecology and the health of residents in neighboring settlements. We are facing a real fact: the existing landfill will soon be unable to fulfill its functions,” Sakkaraev noted.

The deputy proposed two possible solutions: either the construction of a waste processing plant or the opening of a new landfill, which should occupy at least 5 hectares. The new facility must meet modern environmental requirements, including the presence of a leachate pit, drainage and filtration systems, landfill gas monitoring, and fire protection. “It is necessary to transition to civilized management of solid household waste,” he added.
