New rules for working with digital data proposed in the Kyrgyz Republic

A draft law has been prepared in Kyrgyzstan that establishes the definition of digital evidence and the procedures for its collection, storage, documentation, and use in criminal cases. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Justice.

The proposed document includes amendments to the Criminal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, and the Code of Offenses. Special attention in the draft law is given to the protection of citizens' rights by introducing procedural guarantees for working with digital data related to the confidentiality of correspondence, personal data, and private life, as well as mechanisms for judicial oversight.

In addition, the new draft law eliminates outdated terms, aligning them with the Digital Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. It is important to note that the introduction of legal mechanisms for working with virtual assets, which are becoming an increasingly common target for crimes, is also proposed.

It is expected that the adoption of this document will create a unified modern legal framework for combating cybercrime, establish clear rules for handling digital data, and ensure consistency in law enforcement. This, in turn, should enhance the protection of citizens' rights and improve the effectiveness of investigations into crimes related to the internet, digital services, and telecommunications networks.
