A new funding package of $5.88 billion to combat HIV/AIDS has been approved in the United States, reports the UN News Service.

According to information received from the organization, this document plans to allocate $4.6 billion to support HIV-related programs in accordance with the America First Global Health strategy. Additionally, $1.25 billion will be allocated to the Global Fund, which addresses AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, as well as $45 million to support the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

These American investments will provide vital assistance to millions of people around the world and help maintain the high effectiveness of global efforts to combat HIV.

“We are committed to eliminating AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. For over 20 years, American investments have been a key factor in global progress, saving countless lives and supporting countries in their fight against the epidemic,” the statement notes.

UNAIDS has confirmed its readiness to make the most effective use of the allocated funds by offering countries and communities technical expertise, data, strategic support, and actively collaborating with the U.S. government, the Global Fund, and local partners.

It should be noted that Kyrgyzstan and the Global Fund have signed a contract for a grant of over $27 million for the years 2024-2026.
