According to Anton Glushkov, president of the National Association of Builders (NOSTROY), the share of foreign workers at construction sites in Russia has decreased to 20 percent. This has occurred against the backdrop of stricter migration legislation and a decline in demand for labor.

Glushkov noted that foreign workers are still present at construction sites; however, their numbers vary depending on the region: there are the fewest in Siberia, while there are more in the central regions of the country. At the same time, the share of Russian citizens in the construction industry has increased from 70 to 80 percent.

Among foreign workers in Russian construction, migrants from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan prevail, but there is a trend towards an increasing number of workers from India.

“In recent years, there has been a shift towards Uzbekistan, while the number of workers from Tajikistan has decreased. At the same time, new markets, such as India and Pakistan, are beginning to enter the construction sector, starting with agriculture and light industry. Construction will be the next significant direction for them,” added the president of NOSTROY.
