Experts note that a shape resembling a smiling face, about 1.5 million kilometers in diameter, has formed on the surface of the star. The "eyes" of this smiley are two large active regions, each ten times the size of Earth. The "smile" was created by a prominence approximately 500 thousand kilometers long.
"This enormous sun, which represents a smiley face, measures 1.5 million kilometers. The two active regions serve as 'eyes,' while the giant prominence forms the 'smile.' The smiley looks more friendly than aggressive, although with a hint of skepticism," the laboratory commented on the results of their work.
Scientists also clarified that at this moment, the Sun is facing the Earth with this "smiling" side.
