The discussion became possible thanks to the initiative of the president
Today, a discussion is taking place in the Constitutional Court regarding the term of office of the current president of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov. This was reported by Deputy Aliyev on his Facebook page.
The deputy noted that he intends to focus on the legal aspect of this issue, avoiding political interpretations, and to rely solely on legislative norms.
According to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on the Constitution dated May 5, 2021 (section five, article 3), the term of office of a president elected in 2021 for 6 years is considered the first term. Aliyev expressed hope that the Constitutional Court would make a decision based on legal principles rather than political sentiments.
The discussion of President Sadyr Japarov's term of office became relevant after a letter related to Deputy Tashiev appeared in the media. This document addressed the question of how to interpret the first term of the president according to the current Constitution: whether Japarov's term should be considered a full first term or not.
This publication caused significant resonance among parliamentarians, experts, and the general public, as the correct understanding of this issue directly affects the organization of future presidential elections. In response to the raised questions, Sadyr Japarov sent an official appeal to the Constitutional Court of the Kyrgyz Republic requesting a legal clarification, which became the basis for the current consideration of the issue in court.
