At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 25, the chairman of the State Border Service, Abdikarim Alimbaev, reported on the preparation of amendments to the resolution concerning visa runs for citizens of Kazakhstan. This was in response to a request from deputy Dastan Bekeshev regarding the need to resolve the situation with the non-admittance of Kazakhs who permanently reside in Kyrgyzstan.

Alimbaev noted that mandatory registration in Kyrgyzstan is required for citizens of Kazakhstan, similar to the requirements for Kyrgyz citizens in Kazakhstan. "Some citizens do not register for a long time. We have received appeals from deputies reporting problems faced by Kyrgyz citizens who hold Kazakh citizenship when entering Kyrgyzstan. In this regard, the government has issued instructions, and a working group has been formed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Citizens born and residing here, but who have obtained Kazakh citizenship, will be able to cross the border freely. The visa run requirement will not apply to them, and we are currently working on this issue," he added.

Furthermore, he emphasized that citizens of Kyrgyzstan who have children with Kazakh citizenship can also cross the borders without hindrance.

It is worth noting that since October 2025, rules have been in effect allowing Kazakhs to stay in Kyrgyzstan for 90 days within a 180-day period. Since December of last year, an entry restriction has been imposed on citizens of Kazakhstan if they exceed the specified length of stay.
