According to information from Time, the bodies of the deceased were found in six hospitals in Tehran, and most of them died from gunshot wounds. It is reported that on January 9, the corpses were removed from medical facilities.

However, Iranian human rights organizations report a significantly lower number of victims. According to HRANA, at least 65 people have died during two weeks of protests in the country, including 50 protesters and 14 law enforcement officers.

Representatives of Time emphasized that they are unable to confirm HRANA's data. At the same time, they added that this organization only counts those deceased whose identities have been established.

According to information from the Tasnim agency, the number of law enforcement officers who became victims of the protesters has risen to 15. In particular, six security personnel were killed in Fars province, and in Qom, two police officers died from 40 stab wounds inflicted by the rioters. In Mashhad, in northeastern Iran, seven members of the security forces fell victim to demonstrators.

U.S. President Donald Trump has already warned Iranian authorities twice that if protesters are killed, he will deliver a "very strong blow" to Iranian territory.

Anti-government protests in Iran began in late December against the backdrop of the national currency's decline and a sharp rise in prices. Participants in the demonstrations in various cities are demanding changes in the political regime and the return to power of the Shah's heir — Prince Reza Pahlavi. Tehran authorities claim that the unrest is organized by Israel and the United States.
