According to official data provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, protests have been taking place in various cities of Iran in recent days. As of January 6, 2026, there are no Kyrgyz citizens among the injured.

In light of the escalating situation, the ministry strongly recommends that Kyrgyz citizens refrain from traveling to Iran unless it is urgent and necessary.

Those who are already in Iran are advised to exercise caution, avoid mass gatherings and protests, strictly follow the instructions of local authorities, and carry identification documents as well as contact information for the Kyrgyz embassy. It is recommended to keep up with official news.

According to the human rights organization HRANA, at least 36 people have died during the protests, which have been ongoing for 10 days. Among the deceased, 34 are protest participants, and two are representatives of the security forces. However, Iranian authorities have only confirmed the deaths of three law enforcement officers, as reported by the BBC.

HRANA also claims that more than 60 people have been injured, and the number of detainees has exceeded 2,076. BBC Persian has confirmed the information regarding the deaths of 20 individuals and has identified them.

Anti-government protests in Iran began in late 2025, spreading to Tehran and other cities. They arose against the backdrop of economic difficulties and a sharp decline in the value of the Iranian rial, which lost almost half of its value against the dollar in 2025, while the inflation rate reached 42.5% in December. Since December 30, students have joined the protests, contributing to their spread to other locations.

World news agencies note that the current protests are the largest since the events of 2022 related to the tragic death of Mahsa Amini. According to the Associated Press, as of January 1, 2026, at least seven deaths have been reported in four cities, and protests have spread to dozens of locations.

U.S. President Donald Trump also expressed his position regarding the situation, stating on the social network Truth Social his readiness to support peaceful protesters in the event of violent actions by the Iranian authorities.
