In Iran, anti-government protests have been ongoing for six days: there are casualties
For the sixth day, anti-government protests in Iran have resulted in at least six reported deaths. These protests, which began in response to a sharp increase in prices, have become the largest since 2022.
The situation in the country has escalated against the backdrop of a record drop in the value of the Iranian rial, which reached 1.39 million per dollar at the end of December. An inflation rate of 42.5 percent has also contributed to growing discontent among the population, forcing many people to take to the streets of Tehran. As a result of these events, the head of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Reza Farzin, has resigned.

The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, has urged the Minister of Interior to consider the "legitimate demands" of the protesters. The government, acknowledging the existence of protests, has promised to establish a dialogue with their organizers.

Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani noted: "We hear their voices and understand that they are driven by pressure on their livelihoods."

The Fars news agency reported three deaths and 17 injuries in the city of Azna, located in Lorestan province. Participants in the riots attacked a police station, leading to clashes with law enforcement. Additionally, two people were shot dead in the city of Lordegan, one person died in Kuhdasht, and another in Isfahan province.

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, wrote on social media that if Iran continues to use violence against peaceful demonstrators, the United States will be ready to assist the protesters: "We are fully armed and ready to act."
