Anthony Joshua, the British heavyweight boxer, was among those injured in a fatal road incident in Nigeria, which resulted in the deaths of two people, according to local authorities.
The accident occurred on Monday around 12:00 PM local time on the highway between Ogun and Lagos states. At the time of the collision, the black Lexus carrying Joshua crashed into a parked truck. The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria (FRSC) reports that five adult men were involved in the incident. Of these, two died, two were uninjured, and Joshua sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized.
A preliminary analysis of the circumstances of the accident indicates possible speeding and loss of control over the vehicle while attempting to overtake, which led to the collision with the truck. Photos from the scene show significant damage to the vehicle.
The 36-year-old Joshua has roots in Ogun State and was in Nigeria following his recent victory over Jake Paul in Miami. Reports indicate he was traveling from Lagos to the city of Sagamu to celebrate the New Year with relatives.
Local law enforcement agencies have initiated a full investigation into the incident.
