The tragedy occurred on January 7 during a protest against ICE's actions aimed at enforcing immigration laws. According to law enforcement, Good, while driving a vehicle, attempted to run over an ICE patrol.
In a statement, ICE said that one of the agents, fearing for his life and the safety of those around him, opened fire in self-defense.
The Department of Homeland Security labeled Good's actions as an attempt at domestic terrorism, stating that she aimed to run over law enforcement officers.

The city's mayor, Jacob Frey, sharply condemned this statement, calling it a "garbage narrative" and referred to the incident as murder, urging ICE to "get the hell out."
President Donald Trump supported the actions of ICE agents, noting that video footage of the incident shows Good behaving aggressively and resisting before attempting to run over an officer.
A memorial has been set up at the site of the tragedy, where locals bring flowers and candles in memory of Rene Good.

Protesters are gathering in various parts of the city, chanting the name of the deceased and holding signs that read "ICE out." Protests are also planned in New York, Miami, and New Orleans.
