In Kyrgyzstan, 1200 people evade alimony

In 2025, 60,000 enforcement orders for alimony were registered

At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, it became known that 1200 people in Kyrgyzstan are not fulfilling their alimony obligations.

Deputies are discussing a draft law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Kyrgyz Republic," which includes amendments to the Criminal Code, as well as the Criminal Procedure and Criminal Enforcement Codes.

During the discussion, Deputy Mahabat Mavlyanova noted that women demanding alimony or asserting other legal rights face threats and violence from men.

She asked Deputy Attorney General Umutkan Konkubaeva about the possibility of simultaneously addressing the issue of alimony during divorce proceedings.

The Deputy Attorney General responded that the previous convocation of deputies made changes to the legislation, transferring the authority to issue alimony orders from the court to a notarial mechanism.

“Previously, the court could automatically issue an order for the collection of alimony. However, even after that, the father could contest the amount, and then the court was obliged to cancel its own decision,” she explained.

The Deputy Prosecutor added that in cases of dispute, a full court hearing is necessary.

Deputy Yrysbek Atazhanov inquired how many people in the country do not pay alimony.

Umutkan Konkubaeva replied that in 2025, 60,000 enforcement orders were registered, and of those, 1200 people are evading alimony payments.
