Today, March 5, a solemn event dedicated to the Day of the Ak Kalpak and the Day of the State Flag took place in the Alay District, as reported by a Turmush correspondent.

The celebration was held at the Kurmanjan Datka Historical and Ethnographic Museum.

Among the participants were the Akim of the Alay District Chyngyz Bapaev, his deputy, as well as the head of the district internal affairs department Chyngyz Imanaliev and other leaders of local institutions.

During the event, songs praising the ak kalpak and the flag were performed, and the flags fluttering against the blue sky created a unique atmosphere. The district Akim congratulated those present on the holiday and emphasized the importance of state symbols both in the past and in the present.

The song "Alay," performed by Zhyrgalbek Zhangozuev, who is considered the singer of the Alay anthem, was also performed at the celebration and evoked positive emotions among the listeners.

Employees of local organizations and institutions lined up, dressed in ak kalpaks and holding state flags, which added to the spectacle of the event.

Every year on March 5, the Day of the Ak Kalpak is celebrated in Kyrgyzstan, dedicated to this iconic national headdress. The date was established by a resolution of the Jogorku Kenesh on June 29, 2016, with the aim of preserving cultural heritage, respecting national traditions, and fostering a sense of pride in Kyrgyz culture. This day has been unofficially celebrated since 2011.

The state flag of the Kyrgyz Republic was approved by the Jogorku Kenesh on March 3, 1992, and raised on March 5 at the Government House. It was designed by E. Aydarbekov, B. Zhaichibekov, S. Iptarov, Zh. Mataev, and M. Sydykov.

On December 22, 2023, President Sadyr Japarov signed the law "On Amendments to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic 'On the State Symbols of the Kyrgyz Republic,'" which was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on December 20, 2023. This law aims to modernize one of the main symbols of the country—the flag—by changing the wavy rays of the sun to straight ones.
