On January 29, a collegial meeting was held in the Alay district, where the results of the year were summarized and tasks for 2026 were defined.
The district akim Bapaev reported that, in connection with the granting of Gulcho the status of a city, the main streets will be put in order. “The main streets of Gulcho will be improved. We need to modernize the appearance of all facilities—whether they are institutions, enterprises, or residential buildings—and conduct explanatory work among the population on issues related to reducing road traffic accidents and other areas. Our status as a city should not remain just on paper—let's implement it in practice,” said the akim.
Tasks were also set to plan spring activities in advance for landscaping and tree planting. Each institution and enterprise has been tasked with planting at least 100 seedlings, while large organizations are to plant 200–300 seedlings of various species.
President Sadyr Japarov signed the law “On the classification of the rural district of Gulcho in the Alay district of the Osh region as a city of district significance” on October 15, 2025. The law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on September 25, 2025.
According to the law, the rural district of Gulcho is classified as a city of district significance and named the city of Gulcho, and the description of the city’s boundaries has been approved.
