In Bishkek, the memory of Hungarian Turkologist István Mandok will be immortalized

The opening ceremony of the memorial plaque dedicated to the outstanding Hungarian Turkologist István Kongur Mandoki will take place on March 19 at 10:00. This was reported by the press service of the Hungarian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan.

According to available information, the event will be held at the National Innovative Technological School-Lyceum No. 5, named after Aydarkan Moldokulov. Here, the scholar lived and worked during his research trip to Kyrgyzstan.

“István Kongur Mandoki is a significant figure in the field of European Turkology and Kipchak studies, not only due to his academic achievements but also his substantial contribution to the development of Hungarian-Central Asian relations. He dedicated much of his life to travels and expeditions, studying the linguistic and cultural ties between the ancient Magyars and Turkic peoples. In 2024, in honor of the 80th anniversary of his birth, the Hungarian Embassy plans to present a book about him in Bishkek titled ‘Kоңурдун коңгуроосу’,” the press release states.

The memorial plaque-relief will be created by Kyrgyz sculptor Tamila Mamatova, who is known for her monuments to significant historical and cultural figures, including the monument “Aykol Manas” in the main square of the country, as well as the sculpture of Chingiz Aitmatov and the bust of Tatybubu Tursunbaeva.
