In the Chui region, there is a growing population of American minks, as reported by sport fishermen.

According to the fishermen, in the water bodies of the Alamudun and Sokuluk districts, located near Bishkek, this predator feels confident and dominates its environment.

“When we had just settled on the shore for fishing, a black agile creature suddenly appeared. It paid no attention to us and began to explore our belongings, fishing rods, and bait. Not finding anything interesting, it quickly ran along the shore and disappeared into the reeds,” the fishermen reported.

At another water body, vacationers encountered similar behavior from this black predator.

“The American mink is an invasive species that was introduced to Kyrgyzstan from North America. It is an active predator that hunts year-round, feeding on fish, birds, frogs, and snakes. This creature swims and dives exceptionally well. Currently, the American mink is actively settling in the Chui Valley, displacing local predatory species,” noted ecologist Alexander Sosnovsky.
