On January 6, a lecture titled "The Christmas Theme in European Art of the 13th-18th Centuries: Icons and Frescoes" will take place at the National Museum of Fine Arts named after Gapar Aitiev. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture.

In anticipation of Christmas, participants in the lecture will immerse themselves in the study of examples of religious painting, where they will be able to appreciate the richness of artistic solutions illustrating a unified canonical narrative.

"For almost two thousand years, icon painters have been creating icons and frescoes depicting the Nativity scene. These works feature the Infant in the manger, the Virgin Mary, Joseph, as well as animals, the Magi, shepherds, and angels. We will start with secret images in the Roman catacombs and move on to the magnificent icons, miniatures, and frescoes of medieval churches in Byzantium, Serbia, Georgia, and Ancient Rus, as well as reliefs and stained glass from Germany and France. Next, we will examine outstanding works of painting created in the 15th-16th centuries in Renaissance Italy and the countries of the Northern Renaissance. The lecture will conclude with an overview of masterpieces in the Baroque style painted in the 17th century," the organizers said.

The lecturer for the event will be art historian and member of the Union of Artists of Kyrgyzstan, Aina Moldokhmatova. The duration of the lecture will be 1.5 hours.
