In Uzbekistan, a new law is set to be introduced that will limit the possibility of divorce for couples who have been married for less than one year. According to Podrobno.uz, the draft law also proposes an increase in the time allocated for the reconciliation of spouses.

According to the proposed changes, couples without minor children will only be able to file for divorce at the civil registry office after twelve months from the date of marriage registration. A similar rule will apply to cases where divorce is carried out through the courts. An exception will be made for situations related to domestic violence: victims will be able to dissolve the marriage without regard to the time spent in the family.

The amendments to the Family Code are also aimed at improving the financial protection of children. In particular, it is proposed to establish a minimum amount of alimony for one child at a level not lower than the minimum consumer expenses. To increase transparency in payments, it is planned to create special bank accounts in the name of minors, where alimony will be deposited under the supervision of guardianship authorities.
