According to the State Statistical Administration of China, in 2025, the country's population continued to decline. During the year, 7.92 million people were born, while the number of deaths amounted to 11.31 million. As a result, the natural population decrease reached 3.39 million people.

At the end of the year, the total number of residents in China was estimated to be approximately 1.4 billion. Of these, about 716 million are men, and 688 million are women.

As for the age structure, 60.6% of the population, or about 851 million people, are of working age between 16 and 59 years. Individuals over 60 years old make up 23% (about 323 million), among which 15.9% (approximately 223 million) are people aged 65 and older.

This decline has been observed for the fourth consecutive year. Experts explain this trend by low birth rates, an aging population, rising housing and education costs, as well as changing social attitudes among the youth.
