Over 19 million fish fry released into Issyk-Kul and Son-Kul lakes in 2025

- As part of its activities in 2025, the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry released 13.6 million fry into Lake Issyk-Kul and 5.6 million into Lake Son-Kul, as reported by the agency's press service.

According to information provided by the Institute of Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Lake Issyk-Kul is home to 26 different species of fish. In the previous year, 2024, 21.5 million fry were released into Issyk-Kul, while 5.7 million were released into Son-Kul.

Plans for 2026 include the release of 14.1 million fry into Issyk-Kul and 3.5 million into Son-Kul.

To combat poaching and to clear water bodies of illegal nets, specialists from the agency regularly conduct raids in collaboration with the diving service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Tourist and Environmental Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
