An interdepartmental working group has been formed in Kazakhstan to analyze the project of the Almaty – Issyk-Kul highway, as reported by Tengrinews.kz.
Members of the group include representatives from various organizations, including the Ministry of Ecology, the Ministry of Transport, the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs "Atameken," and the Border Service of the National Security Committee.
According to information from the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the new road is considered an alternative to the existing route that runs through Almaty – Otar – Kordai – Bishkek – Cholpon-Ata and has a length of about 460 kilometers.

It is reported that some of the necessary infrastructure is already in place; however, Kazakhstan will need to upgrade about 80 kilometers of roads, while Kyrgyzstan will require approximately 6 kilometers.

The ministry added that work on the feasibility study, which began in 2024, is still ongoing. This document will define the key characteristics of the road, including the route, category, length, expected volume of traffic flows, financial aspects, and possible tariffs. It will also take into account the legal requirements of both countries.
It is expected that the feasibility study will be completed by September 2026. After that, a final decision will be made regarding the implementation of the project, including the possibility of attracting private investments through a public-private partnership mechanism.
