The akim has been tasked with turning Almaty into a city that never sleeps - Tokayev
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan, stated in an interview with the Turkistan newspaper the task set for the akim of Almaty — to make this city operate around the clock, similar to global metropolises like New York and Paris.

In his statement, Tokayev noted that it is necessary to develop the city's tourist infrastructure, which, in his opinion, suffers from the influence of pseudo-ecologists and a lack of competition in some sectors. He also emphasized that the ski resort "Shymbulak" requires modernization, as its capabilities do not meet modern requirements.

According to him, the mountain cluster of Almaty should be accessible to tourists with varying financial means. The president added that for the city to function effectively in a 24-hour mode, improvements in infrastructure, landscaping, and lighting are necessary.

“I instructed the akim to make Almaty a city that, like New York, Moscow, and Paris, never sleeps and works around the clock for the convenience of its guests,” the publication quotes him as saying.
