Kyrgyzstan plans to electrify more than 200 km of the Turk-Sib — Balakchy railway

The project will be implemented with the involvement of investments.

The planned length of the electrified section is over 200 kilometers. The estimated cost of this project reaches approximately $297.7 million. These funds are expected to be obtained through investments, as well as possibly through international financing. The project includes the transition of the railway line to electric traction, modernization of the power supply infrastructure, and updating of related facilities.

The project is expected to start in 2027, with completion scheduled for about three years. Electrification will significantly increase the capacity of railway communication, reduce operating costs, cut emissions, and enhance the country's transit potential.

Currently, the project is in the development stage, and final parameters such as timelines, sources of funding, and implementation format will be clarified after the completion of the feasibility study and agreements between the states.
