From January 1 to January 19, 2026, 295 people sought medical assistance at the trauma center of the Sports Rehabilitation Center due to injuries sustained from slipping on ice. Doctors recorded 227 cases of fractures, while 68 victims were diagnosed with bruises and sprains. Those with fractures were given casts.
The main cause of injuries remains falls on slippery sidewalks, stairs, and pedestrian areas. Medical professionals strongly recommend that residents of the capital exercise particular caution in icy conditions and not rush.
Experts advise moving slowly, paying close attention to the ground, and stopping when possible to assess the situation. It is recommended to keep the legs slightly bent and lean the body slightly forward. It is also dangerous to keep hands in pockets, as this can reduce the chances of maintaining balance during a fall. Elderly individuals are advised to use a cane with a rubber tip.
Additionally, medical professionals emphasize the importance of staying away from the roadway and avoiding areas along buildings where there is a risk of falling icicles. Cross streets only at pedestrian crossings and with special caution.
