From January 1 to January 19, 2026, there were 295 recorded cases of seeking medical assistance due to injuries related to ice and snowfall in Bishkek. This information was provided by the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, citing data from the trauma center of the Sports Rehabilitation Center.
Out of the total number of cases, 227 involved fractures, while the remaining 68 cases were related to bruises and sprains. All patients diagnosed with fractures received plaster casts.
Medical workers emphasize that the main cause of injuries is falls on slippery sections of sidewalks, stairs, and pedestrian crossings. In this regard, they strongly recommend that citizens exercise particular caution when moving in icy conditions.
“When moving on slippery surfaces, it is important not to rush and avoid sudden movements. It is crucial to pay attention to what is underfoot and, if necessary, stop to assess the situation. Keep your knees slightly bent and lean your body slightly forward. Keeping your hands in your pockets during icy conditions is unsafe, as it can reduce your chances of maintaining balance in case of a fall. Elderly people are advised to use canes with rubber tips,” specialists advise.
It is recommended to move as far away from the roadway as possible and to avoid being close to building walls where icicles may form. When crossing the road, one should be especially vigilant and use only pedestrian crossings,” the medical professionals add.
