Local residents expressed their protest, but the council deputies supported the initiative
In the Chui region, in the Issyk-Ata district, there has been an initiative to change the name of the village of Dmitrievka to Esirkemish. This was reported by the local administration.
According to officials, on December 30, 2025, a collective letter from the residents of the region was sent to the head of the village council requesting the renaming.
On January 22, a public discussion took place in the village, attended by about 250 citizens. The results of this meeting were brought to the session of the village council for further consideration.
At the session on January 23, the deputies approved the proposal to rename the settlement.
However, some residents of Dmitrievka previously expressed dissatisfaction on social media, claiming that the name change could lead to a loss of the village's tourist and cultural value.
